Ironman 70.3 Race Report

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Saturday, September 8, 2018, In : Triathlon

It has become somewhat of the norm that my posts are super late, but I could not let another triathlon season start without getting my race report of the 2018 Ironman 70.3 Buffalo City out. The race was a life-changing moment for me, and my hope is that my experience can inspire others to go for their dreams and goals no matter what, because the Ironman slogan has been proven to be true over and over again… ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

After all the formalities of registration and racking was do...

Make 2015 your most fabulous year yet!

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Thursday, January 22, 2015, In : Inspiration

It's still January, the children have only just started school this week, and the klopse had their new year's parade in Cape Town only 5 days ago. It is therefore not too late to post my new year's message. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

The start of a year is traditionally a time that we reflect on the year that passed, evaluate our lives and set new goals. I say 'traditionally' because these things can, of course, be done at any time of the year.

I hope 2014 has been kind to you. A...

I TRI'd ... to SWIM, BIKE, RUN!

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Monday, June 23, 2014, In : Triathlon

It's November 2013, and a conversation goes something like this...

Rog: Jacques, don't you wanna do Impi with me in April?
Hoff: How far is it?
Rog: It's a 10-12km trail run with 18 obstacles in it
Hoff: Ja, that would be fun, but if I do Impi with you then you must do a triathlon with me.

Rog: Uhm *gets shocked look on face* But I can't swim!
Hoff: I'll teach you
Rog: Uhm...Ok

That little conversation would be the beginning of a journey that would change parts of my life as I knew it.

Hoff is Ja...

I will have to leave you for a while

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, In : Hajj

Yesterday was my birthday. It was the most special birthday I have ever had. The chance to show gratitude to Allah for everything I have been granted with, right at His house, the holy ka'bah, was surreal. Gratitude for good friends, close family, tests that make me stronger, challenges that make me grow, opportunities that make my life better.

We invited a few friends over for afternoon tea and it was great to have a part of my Itheko running family to share a section of the day with me as wel...

The journey to Arabia

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, In : Hajj

This is the second time I am writing this particular blog post. The first time I lost it. I wasn't exactly impressed, as time here is precious and losing over an hours' work is saddening. But anyway, enough about that. I'm taking precautions this time round :)

We are now in Madina. Putting everything that has happened since the last time I posted would be sacrilege, so I won't. It's worthy of 3 posts at the very least. Don't worry, I won't make you wait forever. Hehe

Leaving the house on Saturd...

Almost time to leave

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Thursday, September 20, 2012, In : Hajj

It’s almost time… we leave home for Hajj tomorrow.

The buildup has been phenomenal. We are beyond excited and cannot wait to reach the Beitullah. My heart longs and yearns for it.

Once again I am reminded of what an amazing family and circle of friends I have. Everyone has been so supportive, from offering to get us things needed for the trip, to helping out with serving the visitors coming to greet, to making and bringing eatables for the tables. WOW.

This week has seen many late nights, a...

Knysna - The race that crept into my soul, then broke my heart...

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Monday, July 9, 2012, In : Running

The Knysna Forest Marathon 21km will always have a very special place in my heart. It's one of my most favourite races on the calendar, yet it hasn't always been kind to me.

It was in 2010 when we first went up to Knysna to do the race. It was only the 2nd half marathon that my sister, Fadeelah, and I had ever done. We were SO excited, as the reputation of the Knysna Oyster Festival and all its festivities preceded itself. It was an amazing weekend spent with my siblings and friends.

Upon bein...

Unicorns Run Relay for Lucille...

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Friday, March 9, 2012, In : Family & Friends

In 2 weeks time, Cape Town's running mafia will do a 12-hour relay, starting on Friday night 23 March and ending on Saturday morning 24 March, for our darling friend Lucille Swart. To get a glimpse of what an amazing person she is, you just have to spend a few minutes on her blog. But you'd better have a box of tissues handy! She's one of THE most inspiring people you will ever honour of being affected by.

We will call our team the UNICORNS.

The UNICORN members (in alphabetical order, becau...

Adios 2011...

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Saturday, December 31, 2011, In : Family & Friends

2011... Wow, what a year!

From the vibes I've been getting over the past few days, I know that a lot of people reading this may not have had a good year. A lot of my close friends have had a horrible 2011, and for you I sincerely hope 2012 marks the beginning of a new dawn.

As far as my life is concerned, I wouldn't necessarily say that it has been good or bad. I am grateful for every single experience of this year, because it has taught me valuable lessons about myself and others, about people...

135 Minutes for Brony...

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Sunday, October 30, 2011, In : Running

 On 12 November 2011, I will run a sub 2h15 half marathon.

There...I said it.

Who is Brony and why is her name in the heading? I will get to that soon enough. Right now I will first give the background to the plan for 12 November.

I am a runner. Although not too long ago I could literally not run 2km, the bug bit me when I went to spectate and second for a friend at the 2010 Two Oceans ultra-marathon. I will not rehash that story now, but you can read about it here.

Right now I would like to intr...

Appreciate Little Blessings... They Are What Make Life Truly Amazing!

Posted by Rogeema on Thursday, March 11, 2010, In : Inspiration

The spark that ignited the flame for today's blog post came from a tweet (which can be found here). But the story goes back to the 12 or so hours before that. And it just made me realise once more how we can sometimes look at things in 2 completely different ways and the emotional effect will be totally opposite to each other.

On Tuesday, my sister and I were given tickets to go and see Prison Codes at the Artscape Arena that evening, a play set in Pollsmoor Prison. The play details the harsh ...
