The days of Hajj (part 2 of 2)

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Monday, December 17, 2012, In : Hajj

If you haven't read part 1 of this post, please do so first by going here: The days of Hajj (part 1 of 2)

The literal meaning of the days of Tashreek is The days of drying meat.

It is the days of sacrifice, and the pelting of the jamaraat. The sacrifice refers to the animal that is slaughtered during these days on behalf of the hujaaj.

We had to be back on Mina before Maghrib...only beyond the border of Mina, and not necessarily at our campsite, which was quite far into Mina from where we would ...

The days of Hajj (part 1 of 2)

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Saturday, November 10, 2012, In : Hajj

The end of 6 intense days. Exhausted, my right arm sore from pelting, my legs sore from walking, my shoulders in pain from carrying the backpack, my lower back sore too, my skin spotty and bumpy as a coping mechanism of fighting the heat. These are signs that I've given everything I had, and therefore it made me happy and content. It was a good pain, a very good pain!

The days that contained within it the most important day of my life since the day I was born, as it is the day I was 'reborn'....

I will have to leave you for a while

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, In : Hajj

Yesterday was my birthday. It was the most special birthday I have ever had. The chance to show gratitude to Allah for everything I have been granted with, right at His house, the holy ka'bah, was surreal. Gratitude for good friends, close family, tests that make me stronger, challenges that make me grow, opportunities that make my life better.

We invited a few friends over for afternoon tea and it was great to have a part of my Itheko running family to share a section of the day with me as wel...

When is the best time to tawaaf?

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Sunday, October 14, 2012, In : Hajj

Tawaaf is the circumambulation of the ka'bah 7 times in anti-clockwise direction. It is an act of worship that cannot be done anywhere else but there, at Allah's house, the Beit'ullah, the ka'bah.

When is the best time to Tawaaf?

Many people advised us to go late at night, or after Esha. It's cooler then, and you don't get the heat of the sun. So, of course, we tried that.

The sheikh also leads group tawaafs every evening at 11pm. We decided immediately that we would not partake in the group ...

Arriving in Makkah - the Umrah

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, In : Hajj

It has been quite a long time since I've last spoken about our journey, and once again I apologise for this.

We left my beloved Madinah last Wednesday, 3rd October for the city of Allah's house, the Holy Ka'bah. When one enters the city of Makkah for the purposes of Hajj or Umrah, it is required to enter with an umrah, and to cross the meeqat (border) in ihraam.

The requirements of the umrah is as follows:
  • To enter into ihraam
  • The niyyah
  • Tawaaf
  • Sa'ee
  • Khalq (cutting the hair after completion of the...

Delay in posts

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Sunday, October 7, 2012, In : Hajj

This is just a quick note to apologise for not posting anything in close to a week.

We are in Makkah Al- Mukarramah now and I have LOADS to tell.
But Makkah is also very tiring, so most of my free time is spent either resting or sleeping.
However, I am very excited to report on the events of the past week, so a post will follow soon.

I thank you for your patience, and for all your prayers for us.

Rawdatul Jannah - The Garden of Paradise

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Friday, September 28, 2012, In : Hajj

As I ended off the previous post at the start of my story, I will start exactly there.

There was a notice in the foyer that the men would be taken by the spiritual leader to go and ziyaret in the mosque on Tuesday morning at 9am. That basically means that they would be taken to greet the grave of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (whom I will hereinafter refer to as Rasoolullah (SAW)) and his companions that lie beside him... Saydinaa Abu Bakr and Saydinaa Umar. They would also go and visit the Rawda...

Arrival in Al- Madina Monowarah

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Thursday, September 27, 2012, In : Hajj

The pilot announces that we will be landing in Madina in a few minutes and that the temperature on the ground is 41 degrees. I hastily look out of the window to see if I can get a glimpse of the city, and maybe of the minarets of the Holy Mosque.

I couldn't really see much. Or rather I could see, but I didn't know what I was looking at. I decide to rather prepare for the landing and immigration procedures to follow. Fadeelah and I had been warned of the abruptness and sometimes rudeness of th...

The journey to Arabia

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, In : Hajj

This is the second time I am writing this particular blog post. The first time I lost it. I wasn't exactly impressed, as time here is precious and losing over an hours' work is saddening. But anyway, enough about that. I'm taking precautions this time round :)

We are now in Madina. Putting everything that has happened since the last time I posted would be sacrilege, so I won't. It's worthy of 3 posts at the very least. Don't worry, I won't make you wait forever. Hehe

Almost time to leave

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Thursday, September 20, 2012, In : Hajj

It’s almost time… we leave home for Hajj tomorrow.

The buildup has been phenomenal. We are beyond excited and cannot wait to reach the Beitullah. My heart longs and yearns for it.

Once again I am reminded of what an amazing family and circle of friends I have. Everyone has been so supportive, from offering to get us things needed for the trip, to helping out with serving the visitors coming to greet, to making and bringing eatables for the tables. WOW.

This week has seen many late nights, a...

The 5th Pillar of Faith...

Posted by Rogeema Kenny on Friday, August 24, 2012, In : Announcements

This is a short post, to make an important announcement on behalf of myself and my sister, Fadeelah.

Myself (Rogeema), as well as my sister (Fadeelah) and father (Abdullatief) would like to bid farewell to our beloved family and friends as we will be departing for the Hajj pilgrimage on 22 September, insha-Allah.

We would like to beg forgiveness from you for anything we might have said or done, knowingly or unknowingly, that might have offended you. We also seek a duah (prayer) for our well-bei...
